The Children’s Gallery, Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge, 2010-present.
Since December 2010 Veronica Forsgren has been working on a freelance basis as the Children’s Gallery visual arts curator. The role involved setting up the space, creating an identity and awareness for the gallery in conjunction with Riverbank management and staff. This is continually being developed through the creation of family events and exhibitions, by allowing children to exhibit work in the gallery alongside professional artists, booking workshops linked with the theme of the exhibitions, holding school tours and creating educational leaflets etc. The aim is to create an inviting, interactive and magical space that places importance on children and creative exploration, a place that local children feel they have an ownership of. To create a platform where children and families can encounter with contemporary art in a playful environment. As well as allowing artist to consider how to make and install work to appeal a young audience. So far Veronica Forsgren has been involved in booking a number of exciting emerging contemporary artists such as Dragana Jurisic, Michelle Browne, Beth O’Halloran, Roisin Coyle, Michael Fortune, Fintan Ryan & Francis Quinn. Their enthusiasm and creative ideas have helped set the tone of the gallery and helped us to develop the identity of the space.
